The nature of communication changes. What used to always be a human to human affair is now diversified and includes several levels of interactions with machines. To become useful conversation partners, the automated tools we create need to understand what the human says. They also need to be trusted and fair.
These qualities motivate our choices of topics for the Swisscom AI research team. We focus primarily on natural language understanding, in both textual and spoken forms and on the fairness of machine learning.
To enable automated processing of both conversations and documents, we create building blocks that can be reused in varied downstream applications
We pay special attention to conversational agents, colloquially known as chatbots.
